Kennebec Lutheran

In 1890, the first Norwegian Lutheran congregation west of the Missouri River was formed at Medicine Valley. This congregation met in homes until their “meeting house” was given the name “Earling Church”  when they built onto their small gathering space west of Kennebec in 1895. With the help from a lutefisk supper fundraiser in 1929, the congregation purchased a lot in Kennebec, and volunteers began building their new church in town. In 1931, the cornerstone was placed, and worshippers immediately began gathering in their new church basement. The church was fully finished in 1955 and has seen improvements and changes. The building houses beautiful stained glass windows and a beloved altar space given to the Kennebec Lutheran Church from the Hilmoe church in 1974. Kennebec Lutheran is proud to host Monday School for the elementary school kids in our community after school during the school year.
